Why Sharks Circle You Before Attacking...

Two great white sharks swimming in the ocean spied survivors of a sunken
ship.

"Follow me, son," the father shark said to the son shark and they swam to the
mass of people.

"First we swim around them a few times with just the tip of our fins
showing."

And they did.

"Well done, son!  Now we swim around them a few times with all of our fins
showing."

And they did.

"Now we eat everybody."  And they did.

When they were both gorged, the son asked, "Dad, why didn't we just eat them
all at first? Why did we swim around and around them?"

His wise father replied, "Because they taste better without the shit
inside!"

Ayn Rand, Neil Peart, Rush, Set The Wayback Machine to 1976!!

Whether or not you like Rush, they are absolute genius's when it comes to music and lyrics. Take for example the 1976 album 2112. The first side of the album is based on Ayn Rands book "Anthem" , which is a great "READ" in and of  itself.

Here is a snip of a post from "HERE"

Rocking out with Ayn Rand

Besides its musical ambition and instrumental proficiency, there is one other thing that sets Rush apart from most bands -- the strong libertarian/Objectivist themes in its lyrics, which are written by Peart. The band's 1976 album, 2112, was even dedicated to "the genus of Ayn Rand." The album, inspired by Rand's novel Anthem, is about a future society where the rediscovery of the guitar threatens a totalitarian society. It's no surprise that Rush is the only band ever cited in the Journal of Ayn Rand Studies.

Here is a synopsis of the first side of the 2112 album from "WIKI"

Even if you don't like the music These are the lyrics that are very powerful and moving
When you read these along with the album playing it brings it all to life.....

'I lie awake, staring out at the bleakness of Megadon. City and sky become one, merging
Into a single plane, a vast sea of unbroken grey. The Twin Moons, just two pale orbs as
They trace their way across the steely sky. I used to think I had a pretty good life here,
Just plugging into my machine for the day, then watching Templevision or reading a Temple
Paper in the evening.

'My friend Jon always said it was nicer here than under the atmospheric domes of the Outer

Planets. We have had peace since 2062, when the surviving planets were banded together under
The Red Star of the Solar Federation. The less fortunate gave us a few new moons.
I believed what I was told. I thought it was a good life, I thought I was happy. Then I found
Something that changed it all...'

[I. Overture]

And the meek shall inherit the earth...

[II. Temples of Syrinx]

...'The massive grey walls of the Temples rise from the heart of every Federation city. I

Have always been awed by them, to think that every single facet of every life is regulated
And directed from within! Our books, our music, our work and play are all looked after by
The benevolent wisdom of the priests...'

We've taken care of everything

The words you hear, the songs you sing
The pictures that give pleasure to your eyes
It's one for all and all for one
We work together, common sons
Never need to wonder how or why

We are the Priests of the Temples of Syrinx

Our great computers fill the hallowed halls
We are the Priests, of the Temples of Syrinx
All the gifts of life are held within our walls

Look around at this world we've made

Equality our stock in trade
Come and join the Brotherhood of Man
Oh, what a nice, contented world
Let the banners be unfurled
Hold the Red Star proudly high in hand

We are the Priests of the Temples of Syrinx

Our great computers fill the hallowed halls
We are the Priests, of the Temples of Syrinx
All the gifts of life are held within our walls

[III. Discovery]

'... Behind my beloved waterfall, in the little room that was hidden beneath the cave, I

Found it. I brushed away the dust of the years, and picked it up, holding it reverently in
My hands. I had no idea what it might be, but it was beautiful...'

'... I learned to lay my fingers across the wires, and to turn the keys to make them sound

Differently. As I struck the wires with my other hand, I produced my first harmonious sounds
And soon my own music! How different it could be from the music of the Temples! I can't wait
To tell the priests about it!...'

What can this strange device be?

When I touch it, it gives forth a sound
It's got wires that vibrate and give music
What can this thing be that I found?

See how it sings like a sad heart

And joyously screams out it's pain
Sounds that build high like a mountain
Or notes that fall gently like rain

I can't wait to share this new wonder

The people will all see it's light
Let them all make their own music
The Priests praise my name on this night

[IV. Presentation]

'... In the sudden silence as I finished playing, I looked up to a circle of grim,

Expressionless faces. Father Brown rose to his feet, and his somnolent voice echoed
Throughout the silent Temple Hall...'
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/r/rush/2112_20119899.html ]
'... Instead of the grateful joy that I expected, they were words of quiet rejection!
Instead of praise, sullen dismissal. I watched in shock and horror as Father Brown ground
My precious instrument to splinters beneath his feet...'

I know it's most unusual

To come before you so
But I've found an ancient miracle
I thought that you should know
Listen to my music
And hear what it can do
There's something here as strong as life
I know that it will reach you

Yes, we know, it's nothing new

It's just a waste of time
We have no need for ancient ways
The world is doing fine
Another toy will help destroy
The elder race of man
Forget about your silly whim
It doesn't fit the plan

I can't believe you're saying

These things just can't be true
Our world could use this beauty
Just think what we might do
Listen to my music
And hear what it can do
There's something here as strong as life
I know that it will reach you

Don't annoy us further!

We have our work to do
Just think about the average
What use have they for you?
Another toy will help destroy
The elder race of man
Forget about your silly whim
It doesn't fit the Plan!

[V. Oracle: The Dream]

'... I guess it was a dream, but even now it all seems so vivid to me. Clearly yet I see

The beckoning hand of the oracle as he stood at the summit of the staircase...'

'... I see still the incredible beauty of the sculptured cities and the pure spirit of man

Revealed in the lives and works of this world. I was overwhelmed by both wonder and
Understanding as I saw a completely different way to life, a way that had been crushed
By the Federation long ago. I saw now how meaningless life had become with the loss of
All these things...'

I wandered home though the silent streets

And fell into a fitful sleep
Escape to realms beyond the night
Dream can't you show me the light?

I stand atop a spiral stair

An oracle confronts me there
He leads me on light years away
Through astral nights, galactic days
I see the works of gifted hands
That grace this strange and wondrous land
I see the hand of man arise
With hungry mind and open eyes

They left the planet long ago

The elder race still learn and grow
Their power grows with purpose strong
To claim the home where they belong
Home to tear the Temples down...
Home to change!

[VI. Soliloquy]

'... I have not left this cave for days now, it has become my last refuge in my total

Despair. I have only the music of the waterfall to comfort me now. I can no longer live
Under the control of the Federation, but there is no other place to go. My last hope is
That with my death I may pass into the world of my dream, and know peace at last.'

The sleep is still in my eyes

The dream is still in my head
I heave a sigh and sadly smile
And lie a while in bed
I wish that it might come to pass
Not fade like all my dreams...

Just think of what my life might be

In a world like I have seen!
I don't think I can carry on
Carry on this cold and empty life

My spirits are low in the depths of despair

My lifeblood...
... Spills over...

[VII. The Grand Finale]

Norwegian Icebreaker heads up the North Saskatchewan River

As you may have seen on the news it's been very cold in Alberta ...
So cold, in fact, that the Government of Alberta has borrowed a Norwegian Icebreaker to clear the North Saskatchewan River for freighter traffic.
The Icebreaker is starting near Devon and working its way northward.
Here is a picture as the hard work of ice breaking begins. Impressive!

Good Morning!.....

25 or 6 to 4......

While it has been speculated that the song's lyrics are drug related, that rumor has been largely dismissed. Lamm himself says that the title is "just a reference to the time of day," and that "the song is about writing a song. It's not mystical." The time of day in reference is 3:35 AM (or 3:34 AM), which would then be 25 (or 26) minutes to 4 AM.

Murphy....

There was once an Irishman named Murphy who walked into an American Bar.
He sat down and asked the Bartender
"Give me three shots o' your finest Irish Whiskey!" the Bartender complies.

After about a week the bartender asks, "Murphy, would it be better for yeh

if I put all three shots of Irish Whiskey into one glass?"

Murphy replied, "well no. See I have two other brothers back at home,

Patrick and Owen, and everytime I come into a Pub or
Bar I order a shot for each o' them so I can remember the good times."

Well, after another week of this routine, Murphy comes into the bar

and only asks for two shots of Irish Whiskey.
The bartender immediately says "Murphy, is everything ok?
Did somethin' happen to one of your brothers?"

"Oh no", Murphy said, "I just decided to quit drinkin!"

*The Fear of Friday the 13th
For a long time we have been told that Friday the Thirteenth was an unlucky day. It was a day that bad luck would visit; when things would go wrong. It was the day you would sprain your ankle or break your arm; when your face would break out with zits or the dog would get run over by a dump truck.

Why they told us these things when we were young has often made we wonder. I happen to like the number 13 - or wanted to like it. Peer pressure always had me agreeing that there must be something weird about the number 13.

Your Morning LOL :)

Happy Friday the 13th.....

Always Pay Attention to Your Surroundings..

Why would you turn your back in this situation?

The guy in this news story is lucky to be alive. I can't believe that the three of them
just stood there and turned their backs as well as the tow-truck operator not making
sure that  the area was safe before winching the truck.

It's home video so it's a bit grainy but you'll see what I'm talking about.

SUV rolls off tow truck pinning utility worker

He shook it off and appears to be okay. I think his luck was due to the fact that the box was already hit.

The defense for President Barack Obama's uncle is reviewing the driving records of the police officer who arrested him on drunken driving charges.
Onyango Obama, an illegal immigrant, appeared briefly in Framingham District Court on Thursday as his lawyer told a judge he has obtained the driving history of the officer who stopped Obama in August in Framingham.

Old Age Might Be Fun!!....

Three mischievous old Grandmas were sitting on a bench outside a nursing home when Grandpa Andy walked by. And one of the old Grandmas yelled out saying, 'We bet we can tell exactly how old you are.'

Old Andy said, 'There is no way you can guess it, you old fools.'

One of the old Grandmas said, 'Sure we can! Just drop your pants and underpants and we can tell your exact age.'

Embarrassed just a little, but anxious to prove they couldn't do it, Grandpa Andy dropped his drawers.

The Grandmas asked him to first turn around a couple of times and to jump up and down several times.

Then they all piped up and said, 'You're 87 years old!' Standing with his pants down around his ankles, the Grandpa Andy asked, 'How in the world did you guess?'

Slapping their knees and grinning from ear to ear, the three old ladies happily yelled in unison... 'We were at your birthday party yesterday!'

Trying To Find an Exerpt I Read... Help

One of the bloggers I read had a post to a chapter from a new book ( I think)  being written along the
lines of Unintended Consequences and survival/ fighting back. If my memory is correct I remember
reading it a few months back.

It involved a story about an older man that had fortified his house in preparation for an assault from
law enforcement. He had barricaded that house and then retreated up to the fortified attic to finish
what he had started.  Thats kinda what I remember from the chapter I read.

Do any of you know of this storyline / book?
